Why Donate to Information Leak?


Isn't Information Leak free?
... you're damn right it is, and we want to keep it that way.

So why donate?

* To indicate your approval.
* To express your appreciation.
* To help pay for expenses like storage, bandwidth, and server upgrades.
* So we dont have to stoop to using annoying ads!

It costs money to run this place, however using a pay-for-content model means that we will be limiting the people who have access to our information, and thusly are leaving that information out of the global discussion, which is something we do not want to do.

Also remember that paid content cant be shared... if you share paid content this means that someone got it for free which defeats the whole purpose. We want our information to be shared and discussed, so if you haven't already go ahead and quote, forward, blog, digg, buzz, im and tweet whatever you find interesting to your hearts desire.

We at Information Leak are adamantly against ads so many other sites use. We find they detract from the overall look, feel and function of the site and what it stands for. Who wants to hear some ad talking to you, or have some banner flashing in your face or worse yet jumping completely in center of the page while you are trying to read an article you find interesting.

We feel that our visitors would rather donate a few cents out of their pockets than have us rely on "the man" (ads) to help pay for our existence.

We also don't push our donation button in your face. Our donation button is located here... not everywhere possible.

All donations under $0.32 do not actually contribute anything to the site as paypals processing fees equal the donation.
For example:

* A donation of $0.32 USD = $0.01 USD net donation.
* A donation of $1.00 USD = $0.67 USD net donation.
* A donation of $5.00 USD = $4.55 USD net donation.

We mention this to inform you, generous donor, where your $ is going. We do appreciate the thoughtfulness of $0.10 USD donations, but paypal appreciates them more.

Freedom of information being our mantra however we recognize that while highly unlikely considering our donation levels over the years it is theoretically possible for us to turn a profit. This being the case, we promise to give back to our community via giveaways and other means as a way to thank our members for their support.
